If you are producing artwork and want a quick, fillable template to serve as a label and proof that your painting is the "real thing", this Certificate of Authenticity is yours for the taking.
What is a Certificate of Authenticity?
A Certificate of Authenticity is a document that helps provide assurance that an artwork is genuine. The certificate offers important information about the materials, the size and date created. These are the essentials covered by this short form certificate. Longer certificates can also offer information on the provenance of an artwork and more.
Do You Need a Certificate of Authenticity?
If you put your work out to the world in shows or galleries, the certificate identifies you and your painting, much like a label. It looks professional and helps keep your artwork organized. If you don't exhibit or sell your paintings, a Certificate of Authenticity is still helpful for your records and can serve as a timeline of your progress and ideas.
What Information Should Be Included On A Certificate Of Authenticity?
On a short form provide:
- Artist name
- Title of work
- Medium (including the substrate the work is created on)
- Dimensions
- Date of creation
- Statement of Authenticity, signed by the artist
- Contact information - email and website
- Your signature
A longer form may include a list of shows and awards, previous owners, publications, artist's statement and inspiration, and an image of the painting.
This certificate is a free download PDF. Just add to your cart and check out. There is no shipping charge or credit card information needed. Instructions for the download will be sent to you in your confirmation.
Once the download goes to your computer, fill in the information by typing in the text fields. Then print, add your signature and attach to the back of your work with acid-free tape or adhesive. There are two certificates on each page so you can use them for two paintings or attach one and keep the other in a binder or file.
