Warm-up Lesson for October 28 ....
There is no "voice-over" in this animated video - just some nice music and captions to read to explain how I see and interpret landscapes.
We will explore three different subjects over three Saturdays. This webpage will be updated as the workshop progresses, with new information added for each project.
October 21
Our first lesson will focus on Nature’s Patterns, with an emphasis on building form using value blocks and creating a dynamic focal area.
October 28
This session is all about Designing with a Single Figure or Animal. I’ll be painting a cat. If you prefer to choose your own subject, I’ll share tips for selecting a strong reference image during the February 7 lesson.
November 4
In our final workshop, we’ll focus on Simplifying the Landscape.
Below you’ll find images of the finished demonstration paintings, reference photos and lists of specific supplies for each project. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page so you don’t miss anything.
For the basic lessons and exercises, feel free to use your favourite colours and brushes, and a small canvas or panel, or follow the supply list you received.
The main demonstration videos will remain posted here for ten weeks following the workshop, so you can watch and paint along at your own pace.

You may find this helpful too.... Test for transparent or opaque
We will work on canvas or gessoed panel. A product that you may not have is a coloured pencil that will work on top of acrylic paint. I recommend you purchase a few assorted colours of Stabilo ALL Pencils

October 21 - Nature's Patterns - Building with Value Blocks and Establishing a Dynamic Focal Area
This is a multi-step project and includes a basic lesson for building layers of negative shapes. You will find two separate lists of supplies that cover all the steps.
