In a velvet cloak of midnight hue,
A handsome bird with vanity grew.
He strutted proud on twig and wire,
Craving crowds to stoke his fire.

With preened plumage and crooked grin,
He posed and preened with practiced spin.
Each feather placed with pompous care,
He sought the gleam of public stare.

He’d puff his chest, then strike a pose,
A grand performance, heaven knows!
And though the spotlight sometimes fled,
He danced along, his spirits fed—
