The Smiling Fox

In a glade where the brambles were wickedly curled,
Lived a fox with a grin that unsettled the world.
His teeth, alabaster, were sharp as regret,
And his whiskers were always impeccably set.

This fox with a smile, both ghastly and neat,
Went waltzing through thistles on dainty white feet.
His eyes held a twinkle — or was it a threat?
He hadn’t done anything dreadful just yet.

He danced with his friends - a most delicate crew,
Of butterflies stitched from old lace and mildew.
They flitted and whispered in cryptic ballet,
And vanished like secrets at end of the day.

The children grew nervous, the cat would not nap,
The curtains blew inward with barely a flap.
But still he just smiled, so cordial and sly-
A foxy red riddle ‘neath the lavender sky.
