Colour Crushing - two fab hues for you to try!
Two Colours I Can’t Stop Talking About — Holbein Mat Acrylic Rose Violet & Prussian Blue
Every now and then, a colour comes along that completely changes the way I look at my palette. This week, it happened twice.
While digging through a drawer in my studio, I discovered a tube of Holbein Mat Acrylic Prussian Blue — and I’m officially in love. This blue is an absolute stunner. Straight from the tube, it’s deep, rich, and sophisticated. Lightened with Mat White, it transforms into airy, delicate tints that are clean and ultra-opaque. The feel is dreamy, almost like painting with velvet. I can’t believe I’d been letting it hide away all this time.
Then there’s Rose Violet from the same line — a colour I’ve been using for years, but still get excited about. On its own, it’s vibrant and joyful; mixed with white, it becomes a range of soft, rosy opaques that cover beautifully. I used it recently in a whimsical painting of a cat with dice and catnip, and it brought such warmth and personality to the piece.
The Holbein Mat Acrylic range really is special — the paints are buttery-smooth, mostly opaque, and provide gorgeous, solid coverage. The transparent squeeze tubes mean you see the colour before you even open the cap, which I love.
And if you haven’t explored beyond the Mat Acrylics, Holbein also offers Heavy Body Acrylics in tubes for rich, impasto textures, and a Fluid Acrylic line for when you want smooth layers or fine detail work. No matter the form, their colours are consistently lush, lightfast, and inspiring.
Two colours, two moods — and endless possibilities. I can’t wait to see what Prussian Blue and Rose Violet do together in my next painting.
