Hello! I am delighted that we will be painting together. I hope you will enjoy our workshop and learn lots of new ideas and techniques.

Course Description

In this interactive online workshop with Linda Kemp, whimsical, simplified figures and faces will emerge as we portray the forms and features using negative shape-painting techniques in watercolor. We will focus on building with minimal details as shapes and edges reveal the character. Descriptive silhouettes and profile views are key to success.  We will follow the basic steps fashion designers use as you learn how to create your own croquis templates to get your figures' proportions right every time. Then we will exaggerate and stylize shapes and lines to capture expressive poses and personality.  Transparent and opaque watercolors will be layered to create a sense of mystery as the figures and faces are revealed. 

Each day features new projects as Linda leads you step-by-step through the key exercises in this fun workshop. This hybrid online program includes live and video demonstrations created just for this new and unique workshop. There will be plenty of time for you to work on your projects and ask questions. A private workshop webpage provides reference photos, supply list, bonus lessons, and handouts for you to download. The major demonstration videos will be available there, too, for you to review and practice for an additional 6 WEEKS following the workshop. Designed for the intermediate and up painter.

This online painting class will be taught via Zoom. Cheap Joe's will record the workshop and upload it to our YouTube channel. Enrolled/participating students only will have unlimited lifetime access to the video following the workshop. Students will receive more specific and log-in information by email prior to the live event.

Our Main Painting Projects  You will learn how to draw the portraits and figures and then make templates so you can use your drawing for a number of different lessons. If you do not wish to use templates, draw your subjects freehand while we are creating templates. You do not need to prepare your sketches or templates before the workshop. We will work on everything together.
